Benjamin Mauck Obituary, Death – Authorities in Tennessee say that on Tuesday, an orthopedic surgeon was working at his hospital when one of his patients opened fire on him, causing him to die from his wounds and ultimately taking his own life.
According to the Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane, who addressed at a news conference, Benjamin Mauck, 43, was in the exam room at the Campbell Clinic when a male patient opened fire around 2:30 p.m. Mauck was shot and killed by the patient. Prior to what “appears to be a one-on-one interaction that occurred in an exam room,” according to Lane, the alleged gunman had been present in the clinic for several hours.
Lane commented on the status of affairs, describing them as “bad,” “horrific,” and “terrible.” Within five minutes of what the police believe was a targeted and isolated shooting rather than an active-shooter incident, the offender was taken into custody. The police maintain this was not an active-shooter situation.
On Wednesday, it was impossible to ascertain the reason for the shooting that had taken place. A witness reported that the suspect had been making threats against Mauck for at least a week before to the shooting, but Lane stated that the authorities were not aware of any claimed threats made against the physician prior to the incident. The witness spoke with the Memphis CBS station WREG about the incident.
