Brian Burke Obituary, Death – Dr. Brian Burke, a revered medical professional and beloved friend, went away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 6. It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Dr. Burke, who was a dear friend. Dr. Burke was a caring and understanding physician who shown compassion and empathy toward patients who were dealing with their mental health and addiction while serving as the Program Medical Director of Mental Health and Addictions Services at HDGH. Dr. Burke was an essential member of our team.
Dr. Burke is a native of Windsor and attended The University of Toronto for his education. He received his medical degree from The University of Toronto in 1984 and finished his residency in psychiatry in 1990. He went back to Windsor with the intention of serving the town he grew up in. In the past, he has held positions as a Staff Psychiatrist at all of the nearby hospitals, Clinical Coordinator and ACT Psychiatrist for the Essex ACT Team, Director of the Dual Diagnosis Clinic, Undergraduate Director of Psychiatry at SWOMEN, Post Grad Director of Psychiatry at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry in Windsor.
And chair of the Independent Clinical Review Committee at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Throughout his whole professional life, he maintained his position as a staunch advocate and influential leader in the field of mental health and addictions care, not just in the Windsor-Essex Community but even further beyond. His steadfast passion to bettering the lives of individuals whose lives were affected by mental illness will live on in infamy and be remembered always. Dr. Burke had a passion for composing music and performing with his group, the Brian Burke Quartet, outside of his professional employment.
