Duterval Sejour Obituary, Death – Duterval Sejour, 36 years old, was identified as the victim of the gunshot that took place on Ellis Street on Saturday. According to the coroner, Mr. Mark Bowen, he lived on the streets. Bowen claims that his agency was unable to get in touch with Sejour’s next of kin, although he suggests that Sejour may have connections to either Florida or New Jersey. The Richmond County Coroner’s Office requests that anyone who may have any information get in touch with them.
There will be an autopsy performed on this body. According to the preliminary findings released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Sunday, deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Ellis and 12th Streets after receiving complaints that a homeless man was brandishing a gun in the direction of persons in the neighborhood. According to the GBI, the individual was shot and killed by responding deputies while he was chatting with them. Additionally, one of the responding cops was injured in the incident.

It appears from the early information that on Saturday, July 8, 2023, deputies from Richmond County responded to an area in Augusta located at 12th and Ellis Streets in response to a report of a man armed with a firearm. Deputies learned that the man had been pointing the gun at people in the area earlier that day. The man was located by the deputies in a confined area of a commercial establishment that abutted Ellis Street.
The man’s possession of a firearm was verified by the deputies. An exchange of gunfire took place between the deputies and the suspect as they were talking to him in an effort to induce him to surrender. The victim succumbed to his wounds at the scene of the incident. An autopsy will be carried out by the Medical Examiner’s Office of the GBI. The Richmond County Coroner’s Office is making an effort to contact the deceased man’s family members and inform them of his passing.
The identity of the man will not be made public until that time. During the incident, a Richmond County deputy was also shot and taken to a local hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. A free and impartial investigation will be carried out by the GBI. When everything has been finished, the file on the case will be sent to the office of the district attorney for the Augusta Judicial Circuit for review. The General Bureau of Investigation has been asked to look into fifty different officer-involved shootings so far in 2023.
