Fatal Car Accident, Memphis TN: A suspect who had carjacked a vehicle and then been engaged in an accident that resulted in a fatality has been apprehended by the Memphis Police Department. At approximately 12:30 in the afternoon, a law enforcement officer was driving westbound on Cottonwood Road when he witnessed a car do an unlawful u-turn in front of him and then speed away.
After running the vehicle’s tags, the police determined that the automobile had been reported stolen and was involved in a number of different crimes. After leaving Cottonwood, the stolen vehicle continued on Perkins Road heading in the opposite direction, northward. The police officer was making his way toward the intersection of Perkins and Cottonwood when he noticed that the driver of the stolen vehicle had been engaged in a collision involving three other vehicles near the intersection of Perkins and American Way.
Three people were inside the automobile when it was taken, but only two of them got out. The third individual stayed inside the car. After fleeing the scene of the collision, one occupant then stole a vehicle from another victim in the vicinity of Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Showcase. After crashing into a police car on their way out of the scene, the suspect drove away in the stolen vehicle. The pursuit was started by officers who were already in the area. The suspect kept driving and collided with a vehicle at the intersection of I-240 and Norris Road, as well as another vehicle at the intersection of Millbranch Road and Shelby Drive.
The suspect managed to escape from the car that had been stolen while he was in the Mill Creek Apartments, where he was later captured. The suspect’s injuries, which he sustained in the collision, were not considered to be life-threatening when he was transferred to Regional One Hospital.
