Judyth Watson Obituary, Death – I was shocked to learn about Dr. Judyth Watson’s demise. My deepest condolences. OAM. When I was just starting out in politics, she taught me how it is possible to get great public policy outcomes on big difficult topics while still being a valued local MP who fixes bus stops and other things that are important on a daily
basis for your constituency. She showed me how it is possible to do both at the same time. She was ruthless yet had a zany sense of humor at the same time. She was an advocate for social justice both before and after she entered politics, continuing to do so right up until the end of her life. When I was the Minister of Education, we had discussions
regarding the ways in which children of refugees could have improved access to public education. Even though I won’t be able to make it to Perth for her funeral, I’m confident that her cherished labor movement will honor her in the best possible way (although I suspect she would be irked by all the fuss). Judyth Watson will be missed.
