Kenneth Rodrigue Obituary, Death – Born on March 7, 1940, Kenneth Joseph Rodrigue passed away late on Monday afternoon, July 10, 2023. He was a dedicated husband, father, and friend from Edgard who settled in Thibodaux. He was friendly to a fault, saw the best in people, and inspired the best in those around him. Ken’s appreciation for farming and rural life stems from his upbringing on Goldmine Plantation. Some of his best recollections involved his time spent working with his father. When Ken married his high school girlfriend and soul mate, Wanda Lee Rougeau, after graduating from Edgard High School, he had found the love of his life. They’ve been together forever, and this year they celebrated 61 years of marriage.
In 1962, Ken graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in agricultural mechanization. In 1965, Ken became one of the first members of the team that would go on to form what is today John Deere Thibodaux under the name Cameco Industries. When Sunshine Quality Solutions needed a strong leader, Ken was there to take the helm as President. In addition to having multiple patents in the United States for sugarcane equipment, Ken was honored with a number of other accolades throughout his career. He was also actively involved in the educational community of Thibodaux, volunteering at both St. Joseph Elementary and E.D. White High School, which his children and grandkids attended. He was the Grand Marshal of the 2002 Thibodaux Volunteer Fireman Fair because he was a huge fan of the Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department.
Ken loved spending time with his family and friends, farming on the weekends at Goldmine Plantation, going off-roading, restoring vintage John Deere tractors, and hosting gatherings at his Shed. He overcame numerous health problems in later life, including cancer, with the support of his strong Catholic faith. Anita Rodrigue Bankston, Brian Rodrigue (wife Darlene), Todd Rodrigue (wife Laurie), Scott Rodrigue (wife Alexis), and ten grandkids survive Ken, in addition to his wife, Wanda. In addition to his sister and brother, he is survived by several relatives and nieces and nephews, including his brother Leslie Rodrigue, brother-in-law Mervin Rougeau (wife Charlye Anne), sister-in-law Martha Rougeau Steib, and their respective families.
His family includes his son Daniel, his sister Bernadette, his parents Stan and Edna, his maternal grandparents Charles Tassin Sr. and Evelina Breaud Tassin, and his paternal grandparents Peter and Ada Champagne Rodrigue. His brother-in-law Gene Setliff and his nephew Edward Rougeau Jr. also predeceased him, as did his sister-in-law Betty Rougeau Setliff. The Rodrigue brothers, Brian, Scott, and Ryan, along with their sons Lane, Hank, Rhys, and Eli, will serve as pallbearers. On Monday, July 17th, from 10:00 AM to the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM, a visitation will be held in his honor at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux, Louisiana. St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux, Louisiana will serve as the final resting place.
