Larry Snyder Obituary, Whetstone Twp, 87 Year Old Man Has Peacefully Passed Away

Larry Snyder Obituary, Death – On Friday, July 7, 2023, Larry Snyder, 87, of Whetstone Twp., passed away unexpectedly from natural causes at his home. He was the son of Kenneth and Carolyn (Wagner) Snyder, who both passed away, and was born on June 20, 1936 in Bucyrus. After finishing high school in 1954 at Whetstone, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy and served as an aviation mechanic in Oklahoma, Tennessee, Kansas, and Hawaii. After serving his sentence, he went home to work with his father on the farm. In addition, he met Mary Baumgardner, and on May 28, 1961, the couple tied the knot. After 35 years of service at the shipping center at The Timken Co., Larry decided to retire. He first joined the company in 1963.

After retiring from farming, he spent several years working alongside his brother in the construction industry and his son-in-law at Greg’s Auto Service. The warm grin and generous nature of Larry will be remembered fondly. Since he never met a stranger, he was known as “The Mayor” for his willingness to strike up conversations with anyone. He maintained his fitness by working in his garden and riding his bike. He was an avid fan of the Indians, Buckeyes, and all types of auto racing, and he also collected farm toys. Larry regularly attended the Whetstone Baptist Church, where he also met up with old friends for breakfast.

Larry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary B. Snyder; their children, Randy (Jeanine) Snyder and Nancy (Greg) Morrison; their grandchildren, Jonathon (Snyder) Snyder, Josh Snyder, and Eric (Morrison); their parents, Edwin (Lauretta) Snyder and Jean Ann (Dr. Steve) Nigh; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. His brother, Roger Snyder, also predeceased him, along with his parents. Funeral services for Larry will be held at Whetstone Baptist Church on August 5. Funeral services will commence at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and led by Pastor Larry Oxendine. The US Navy Honor Guard and the Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail will conduct military funeral honors prior to interment of the urn at Whetstone Cemetery.
