Ross Harvey Obituary, Death – Ross Harvey, the show’s first host, passed away on July 5, 2023, and CKUT is deeply saddened by this news.
Ross joined the CKUT family in 1988 as the host of Bluegrass Rambling, and he also hosted Country Classics beginning in 1991 (he is pictured above answering the phones during CKUT’s 1991 Funding Drive). On Sunday evenings, many Montrealers would turn on the radio to hear Ross play selections from his vast music library.
The phone would ring constantly during his broadcast with fans calling in with requests or expressions of gratitude. During the fundraising drive, Ross not only baked us delicious peanut butter cookies, but he also volunteered to answer the phones. On Monday nights, Ross could be found at the Wheel Club (a veterans social club in NDG that hosted live Bluegrass). There, he could listen to his favorite music while sipping rye and ginger and chatting with other patrons.
Many members of the CKUT family, who were introduced to the country and bluegrass scene for the first time by Ross when he passed the torch to the new hosts of the radio shows, celebrated the occasion with him at the Wheel Club. We owe a debt of gratitude to Ross for ensuring that Sunday nights on CKUT are still the best time to tune in for your Bluegrass and Country fix. Our hearts go out to you all.
