Sally Kempton Obituary, Death – I will miss my great friend Sally Kempton, who was also one of the teachers who had the most of an impact on my life, and I am heartbroken by the news of her departure today. During a gathering for advanced yoga teachers, I (mostly) botched leading kirtan, which caused me to feel insecure. It was at that gathering that I ended up meeting you. Soon after that, she started inviting me to lead kirtan at her meditation retreats, so I guess she could sense and hear something in me.
After that, she instructed me in Kashmir Shaivism and meditation for a significant amount of time and took me under her wing as a student. After that, she was the officiant at my wedding to my first husband. She was a very important part of my big day. Then, after we got divorced, she laughed about the lessons that particular marriage taught me and said, Maybe I should stop officiating weddings.
After that, she laughed as she talked about the things I had learned from that particular marriage. I couldn’t be happier that she was able to have a conversation with Patrick during her trip to Los Angeles a few years ago. She liked him, too. And I’m happy to report that not too long ago, Sally, several of her former students, and I were able to get together on Zoom. It was a great experience for all of us. I had no idea that the conversation we were having over the phone would be the last time we would see each other.
