Stephen Spadorcia Obituary, Death – on Thursday, November 16, 2017, passed away suddenly at home due to an unforeseen illness. Doreen Spadorcia was the eldest of her four siblings and was the first child to be born on August 12, 1957 to the late James J. Spadorcia and Elena (Pizzoferrato) Spadorcia. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Michigan University, her Juris Doctor degree with the Order of the Coif from Florida State University, and her Master of Arts degree in International Relations from Florida State University.

She was born and raised in Rocky Hill, where she also attended the public schools. Doreen received her CPCU and CLU credentials when she was working in the insurance industry. Doreen left the private practice of law in Tallahassee, Florida, in 1986 to take a position as a claim attorney for Aetna Life & Casualty in Hartford. She rose through the ranks of the company through hard work, dedication, and commitment, and in 2014 she became the first female Vice Chairman of The Travelers Companies. She held this position until she retired in September of 2016, after having worked there for a total of 30 years.

Doreen was known for tackling difficult industry difficulties while serving in her job as supervisor at Travelers, where she handled one of the largest property and liability insurers in the country. She was recognized for her high standards, great intelligence, resolve, strength of character, and unbending ideals. She was also notorious for never being one to fold her cards easily or quickly. She was widely regarded as an exceptional leader who was both highly energized and superb, and she worked tirelessly for the sake of the organization at all times.

Doreen also held the position of Director of the Travelers Foundation and sat on the Management Committee of the company she worked for. In addition to this, she served as a Director for the nonprofit group KickStart International, whose primary mission is to address concerns about the acquisition of drinkable water. Doreen’s two kids, Emily and Elena, made her a very proud mother, and she never hesitated to talk about their family and the adventures they had together.
