Sylva Darel Obituary, Death – Her unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and the community in which she resided earned her acclaim, and she was lauded for the work ethic that underpinned her success. She was a courageous and self-reliant young lady. Jeanette was a proud graduate of Sylva High School, from which she went on to begin a career with the Massie Furniture Company in Sylva,
which lasted for 59 years. Before that, she was employed at the company. Because she was so committed to her work, she was finally able to earn the position of owner and operator of the business, which she remained in for a total of 37 years. Friends and relatives of Jeanette will remember her not just for her strong work ethic, but also for her kind nature and the selflessness with which she lived her life.
She will be remembered for all of these qualities. She was able to assist individuals who were having difficulty and give back to her community despite the fact that she owned a successful business and had a very busy schedule. She also gave back to the environment. The only members of Jeanette’s family to have survived her passing are her daughter Kathy Alexander, her son-in-law Steve Alexander,
and her grandson Steven Alexander. There are also quite a few first cousins, second cousins, nieces, and nephews that are here today. Her husband, her parents, and her sister Carole Beck Hensley were all before her in death, as did her sister Carole’s husband, Paul Hensley. Appalachian Funeral Services, which can be found in Sylva at 165 Skyland Drive,
will host a visitation on the 24th of June, 2023, beginning at 1:00 PM and continuing until 2:30 PM. Immediately after the visitation, a funeral service will take place at the same location. The Reverends David Powell and Steve Alexander presided over the event as the officiating ministers. The interment will take place in the Sherrill Cemetery in Whittier, North Carolina, following the conclusion of the service.
